Local Attractions

Our location places us a mere ten-minute walk from the industrious village of Sion Mills. Established in 1835 as a meticulously planned linen village by the Herdman brothers, it bears massive historical significance.

At the heart of the village stands the venerable Herdman’s Flax Mill, once a titan of manufacturing in the province, it was viewed as the “Rolls-Royce” of the linen industry. During its zenith, it supported a workforce exceeding 1000 individuals. This remarkable industrial legacy endured for nearly 170 years, ceasing operations in 2004.

Outdoor Adventures

Glebe House Estates is conveniently situated a mere five-minute walk from the iconic swinging bridge that leads to Sion Mills. This idyllic locale offers an excellent trail suitable for both leisurely walks and invigorating cycling, affording visitors the opportunity to explore notable landmarks such as Herdman’s Mill and the picturesque River Mourne.

Cycling: For cycling enthusiasts, the rolling countryside offers scenic routes for riders of all skill levels. There are a number of fantastic cycling trails in close proximity to the estate, so bring your own bike or rent one locally to explore the area on two wheels.

Fishing: With a close vicinity to the River Mourne, fishing is right at your doorstep. The river is held in high regard as being one of Ireland’s top Salmon fisheries, with an estimated 15,000 Salmon entering the River Mourne each year.

Cultural Exploration

Within Sion Mills, a great museum finds its home in the meticulously restored Sion Stables. This museum chronicles the Herdman brothers’ visionary undertaking in shaping the village. Their aspiration was to forge a morally grounded, educated, and inclusive community centered around the flax-spinning enterprise in the northwestern region of Ireland. Remarkably, these enduring values continue to resonate in the present day.

A mere five-minute drive from our location lies the historically significant town of Strabane. Among its treasures is the renowned Gray’s Printing Press museum, where the illustrious printer John Dunlop honed his craft. It was Dunlop who went on to achieve the monumental feat of printing the American Declaration of Independence, etching his name indelibly into the annals of history

A mere thirty-minute drive brings you to the culturally vibrant walled city of Derry/Londonderry, filled with a plethora of attractions and activities.
